Boo hoo

A story about a company with great expectations and goals: conquering the world with their online store! But unfortunately like the story indicates already in the beginning, it has no happy ending. But though I was curious to find out where it went wrong.

Starting up a company is a lot of work and definitely not easy. You have to think about so many things I would never come up with. I would surely forget half of them. And not to forget, you also have to work constantly and give up all your leisure time. It really impressed me that they were able to do all this considering their age. Well done, I must admit although it didn’t turn out well.

But they also made some mistakes, which is normal, in my point of view. Too much money is spent on hotels, plane tickets, dinners, parties,…. Some expenses were really unnecessary or could have cost less, like the Concorde flight or the party in Paris with Puff Daddy, Kate Moss,...

The main reason, in my point of view, why “Boo” didn’t manage to conquer Europe was because the people were not ready for it yet I think. It’s also a matter of having the right people in the right place. Something where they were not very lucky with.

The Triumph of the Nerds

The film gives an interesting overview about the history of the personal computer, I think. How nerds by experimenting in their garage come to a real working machine, has really changed the world and our perceptions. Those computer freaks were able to construct a new society. How powerful can a small group of people be? And how would our world look like today without this invention? It is hard to imagine a society with all our technological stuff.

One of the richest people walking around on this planet, Bill Gates, really played it well! Especially considering his age. The competition between IBM, Apple, MS DOS/ Windows and Xerox is really impressive. One day you can be the most influential company in computer business and the other day almost going bankrupted. It all depends on how good the products are the right timing and what the people want and expect.

Most of these computer guru´s just look at other products on the market and try to copy them. It’s all about stealing and coping: those are the best artists! Really interesting thought though.

Today the competition between the different leading men is a lot harder than fifteen years ago probably, because technology innovates so fast. Most of these men are still on top of this business today, but it can all change really fast of course. I´m wondering how this film would look like during the next five years?
